Q.: We already have BIO paint pigments. Are they Ok to use in Volvox clay Paints?

A.: To my knowledge Bio sells pigments that are pre-dispersed in water. Meaning that they must be used within a certain time as the water can become contaminated with bacteria. So, if the Bio pigments smell bad, they are off. Otherwise, yes, you can use the Bio pigment.

Q.: Can I use Bio Thinner instead of Volvox Thinner?

A.: The nature of the beast is that every "natural paint manufacturer" is promoting there own products. If you are using Bio Paints the thinner shall be Bio thinner. However, most natural paint manufacturers have switched to the crude oil derivate Iso-Paraffin also called Isoaliphate. This means that there is no speciality in the Bio or Volvox thinner. It is in both cases the same thing and even may come from the same batch with more or less citrus added. So, if you are working with natural oil based products, you can use the Bio-Thinner for cleaning up.

Q.: Can polyethylene water tanks be painted in Volvox Clay Decor ?

A.: I am not so sure if this works. Volvox Clay Décor is meant to be an interior wall and ceiling paint. However, I have tried more application and can say that Volvox Clay Décor is more than a wall and ceiling paint. I have used it on plastic doors interior uoAqua Transparent Wood Finish in order to add more Binder to the surfacnd outdoors. The outdoor application was Clay Décor plus a final coat of pre. It worked. So, please try. Important is to have a clean surface. Free of dust, dirt and grease. I must point out that I cannot give guaranties for this as Volvox will not back me for applications other than described in the technical information. So, the only was to find out is to try.

Q.: Is the Volvox Hard Oil Wax Finish suitable for a pine plywood floor?

A.: Volvox Hard Oil Wax Finish is suitable for pine plywood as it is solvent free and glue in the plywood should not react with any components of the Hard Oil Wax Finish.

Q.: What is Volvox ProAqua Lacquer ?

A.: Volvox ProAqua Lacquer is actually a solvent-free high tech Water Based Enamel. Zero VOC, low-drip, resilient Satin Finish for interior and exterior applications. Volvox ProAqua Lacquer is made with the same advanced paint technology as our Volvox ProAqua Transparent Wood Finish. Behind its soft satin sheen and contemporary colour range lies a highly advanced formulation that makes Volvox ProAqua Lacquer/Enamel stand out from the crowd. Unlike other water based paints, Volvox proAqua Enamel is totally free of oils, acrylics and acrylic softeners, making it safer and more pleasant to use and better for the environment. It is beneficial for your family's health and the environment as it is VOC free and certified not to emit any harmful emissions during or after use. From a practical point of view, it covers well, dries quickly, does not discolour with time and provides a durable, washable finish. No primer or undercoat is required (for new wood just dilute the first coat with 10% water).

Q.: A customer has purchased and used the Volvox Timber Deck Care on two tables that are on a covered veranda - exposed to UV and occasional rain. The timber was bare and finely sanded - one is teak and the other a lighter coloured timber. Two coats of Volvox Timber Deck Care were applied on each. Although it is protecting from UV (i.e. not fading) it is not handling the occasional rain that gets in. It has developed black mould spots after being exposed to the rain. What to do?

A.: It is most likely not a fungus such as mould but tannic acid is the cause of the black spots. Black discolouration on timber indicates to me that water has reacted with tannin of the wood. Volvox Timber Deck Care is based on seed oils and the protection is an impregnation rather than a varnish type of film. Therefore the treated surface is still able to "breath". This means that some water vapour can enter the wood if the impregnation was not sufficient enough. In this case one more coat of Volvox Timber Deck Care is needed. However, the black spots should be cleaned off before another coat is applied using Volvox Floor Renovator. With Volvox Floor Renovator also possible mould is removed (if any).

Q.: What colours does Volvox ProAqua Enamel come in?

A.: White and 25 colours matching the special collection range of VOLVOX Clay Décor.
